ChatGPT Job Seeker Prompts

ChatGPT has the power to be your own personal Job Seeker Coach.

Keep in mind… Don’t just give ChatGPT a simple prompt and expect it to work miracles… you wouldn’t expect a career coach to give you expert advice off of a simple sentence or two about what you want.

Instead follow the 6 steps below by copying & pasting the “PROMPT:” directly into ChatGPT.

1- START BY TELLING IT WHAT COACH PERSONA YOU’D LIKE IT TO TAKE ON:

PROMPT: I’d like you to act and respond as Ryan… My Personal Expert Career & Job Search Coach.  I’m going to provide you with information in the form of my resume, linkedin profile, as well as job descriptions for the jobs that I’m interested in. (I’ll even try to provide you with resumes of people currently doing that job.). I’d then like your help in guiding and coaching me thru the process of applying for and landing an awesome new job.  Are you ready?

2- THEN TELL IT ABOUT YOURSELF:

PROMPT: Here is my current resume: [COPY & PASTE YOUR RESUME HERE]

PROMPT: Here is my current LinkedIn profile: [COPY & PASTE YOUR LINKEDIN PROFILE HERE]

3- THEN TELL IT ABOUT THE JOBS YOU ARE INTERESTED IN:

PROMPT: The following is a job that I would like to apply for: [COPY & PASTE JOB AD HERE]

STEP 4- FEED IT THE RESUMES OR LINKEDIN PROFILES OF PEOPLE CURRENTLY DOING THE JOB:

PROMPT: Here is the resume(s) of people currently doing this job for the company I’d like to apply to: [COPY & PASTE RESUMES HERE]

STEP 5- NOW ASK YOUR COACH HOW IT CAN HELP YOU:

PROMPT: Please provide me with a list of ways that you can help assist me throughout the entire process of searching for, applying to, interviewing for, following up, negotiating and offer, and starting a new job.  With each assistance option… please tell me what you’ll need to know to personalize your responses and give me a ChatGPT prompt to use to get back the best advice & assistance.

STEP 6- NOW ASK IT FOR HELP:

Just enter in one of the prompts that it provides you… or use one of the prompts below… and you’ll quickly get the expert help that you need!

1. Job Search:

• Assistance: Provide tips on effective job search strategies and platforms.
• Need to Know: Your desired job title, industry, and preferred location.
• Prompt: "ChatGPT, can you provide tips on searching for [Job Title] roles in the [Industry] within [Location]?"

2. Resume Building:

• Assistance: Offer suggestions to optimize your resume for specific roles.
• Need to Know: Job description and your current resume details.
• Prompt: "ChatGPT, can you review and suggest improvements for my resume based on this [Job Description]?"

3. Cover Letter Crafting:

• Assistance: Help in creating or refining a cover letter tailored to a job.
• Need to Know: Job description, company details, and your relevant experience.
• Prompt: "ChatGPT, can you help me draft a cover letter for [Job Title] at [Company Name] based on my experience in [Your Experience]?"

4. Interview Preparation:

• Assistance: Provide interview tips, mock questions, and strategies.
• Need to Know: Job description, company details, and interview format (e.g., panel, one-on-one).
• Prompt: "ChatGPT, can you provide interview tips and potential questions for a [Job Title] position at [Company Name] with a [Interview Format]?"

5. Post-Interview Follow-Up:

• Assistance: Guide on writing follow-up emails/thank-you notes after interviews.
• Need to Know: Interview details, names of interviewers, and any specific points you want to address.
• Prompt: "ChatGPT, can you help me draft a follow-up email for my interview at [Company Name] with [Interviewer's Name]?"

6. Offer Negotiation:

• Assistance: Provide negotiation strategies and tips.
• Need to Know: Offer details, your market research on average salaries, and benefits for similar positions, and any specific terms you want.
• Prompt: “ChatGPT, I received an offer for [Job Title] at [Company Name] with these terms [Offer Details]. Can you guide me on how to negotiate?”
