Job Summary:
The Mechanical Engineer III – Advanced Product Design and Manufacturing is
responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing advanced robotic actuator
systems, including rotary and linear motion solutions, for humanoid, industrial,
and service robotics applications. This role drives new product development
initiatives by supporting the design, sourcing, procurement, and validation of
prototype components and manufacturing processes. The incumbent collaborates
with cross-functional teams to ensure products are designed for performance,
manufacturability, quality, and cost-effectiveness while supporting the
transition from concept through prototype development and production readiness.
Through the application of advanced mechanical engineering principles and
manufacturing expertise, the Mechanical Engineer III contributes to the
successful development and commercialization of innovative robotic
technologies.
Key Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned as
needed):
* Design mechanical components, assemblies, and manufacturing solutions for
prototype and pre-production products, ensuring performance, reliability,
cost, and manufacturability objectives are achieved.
* Create and release engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials
(BOMs), engineering change documentation, and procurement packages.
* Evaluate, develop, and implement new manufacturing technologies, processes,
and tooling to improve manufacturability, product quality, cost efficiency,
and product development cycle time.
* Support Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), Design for
Reliability (DFR), APQP, and product development activities to meet quality,
cost, and project timing objectives.
* Coordinate prototype builds by planning component procurement, supporting
assembly and engineering validation, managing design iterations, and
partnering with cross-functional teams to meet project schedules and
technical milestones.
* Research and apply emerging actuator technologies, advanced materials,
precision manufacturing methods, and robotics industry trends to drive
product innovation, improve system performance, and support continuous
improvement initiatives.

Education and Experience:
* Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering
discipline.
* 5+ years of experience in mechanical product development, prototype
manufacturing, or advanced manufacturing engineering.
* Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including: CNC machining,
Injection molding, Casting, Heat Treat and Additive Manufacturing (3D
printing)
* Experience procuring prototype components from domestic and international
suppliers.
Skills and Competencies:
* Use and application of component GD&T based on product functional
requirements.
* Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, or Siemens NX.
* Design and Process Failure Mode Effects and Analysis (FMEA).
* Application of Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods and principles to
product design requirements.
* Experience with product design and manufacturing involving rotary bearings,
recirculating ball screws, and belt- and gear-reduction mechanisms is
preferred.
* Strong project management, communication, and supplier management skills.
* Ability to coordinate and organize program deliverables from multiple sources
and customers.
