The Physician’s Assistant works with a variety of healthcare professionals/security officers in a correctional environment to provide basic medical services supervised by a licensed Physician.  NURSE PRACTITIONER / PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Responds to and initiates care for medical emergencies throughout the facility. * Identifies patient health problems and prescribes treatment under the direction of a physician. * Implements medical care utilizing therapeutic regimens approved by a Physician. * Provides education to inmate/patient, healthcare staff, and correctional staff. * Documents all healthcare contacts. * Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills. Follows security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications. * Delegates to and supervises other team members as appropriate. * Adheres to Universal Precautions and other appropriate infection control practices. * Attends training and meetings as required. NURSE PRACTITIONER  / PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS * Graduate of an accredited college/university NP / PA program * Must possess current licenses or certifications in the state of employment * Experience in Correctional desired but not required * Maintains required annual licensure and credentialing requirements for physician assistants / Nurse Practitioner in the healthcare unit.
