Work Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday 2pm-10:30pm This position is primarily focused on Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) testing and analysis, including both wet laboratory procedures and interpretation of results for hematologic (heme) and formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) specimens. Job Responsibilities * Perform routine procedures including tissue culture, harvesting, slide making and banding, automated karyotyping, reagent preparation, and FISH processing, probing, and scoping. * Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria * Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures * Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality * Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving. * Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls * Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care * Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures * Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary * Assist with processing of specimens when needed * Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology * Three years or more of clinical laboratory testing experience * One year of experience performing FISH wet lab and FISH analysis. * California Clinical Cytogeneticist Scientist License Preferred Qualifications * Three years of experience performing FISH wet laboratory testing and FISH analysis. * Three years performing and interpreting FISH assays on both hematologic (heme) and FFPE specimens. * Scientist in Cytogenetics - CG(ASCP) Additional Job Standards * In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements * Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures * Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment * Ability to work independently and within a team environment * Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems * High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills * Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position * Able to pass a standardized color blindness test * Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs * Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot assays, resolve technical issues, and maintain high-quality laboratory performance.
