Speaker Department Manager: Quality and Operations Lead
About the role: Our loudspeakers are sent on tours with some of the world's biggest artists. Every box that leaves our building has to be right. We already have skilled repair technicians, and are looking for a hands on leader who builds the system around them with clear standards, documented processes, and a clean and organized shop; while inspiring the team to hit quality targets every day.
This is not a desk job. You'll run the department from the floor. Expect to work alongside the team regularly: inspecting, testing, pulling orders and turning equipment when the workload calls for it.
If you've led a quality focused team in manufacturing, warehousing, or equipment rental and you believe in 5S, standard work and good documentation, we want to speak with you. Audio experience is a plus, not a requirement. We'll teach you the gear.
What You'll Do:
- Lead and develop the speaker department team, including repair technicians and QC staff: set daily priorities, assign work, coach and hold the team to standards
- Work hands-on with the team on a regular basis: inspection, testing, order prep and equipment turn around
- Own the department's QC process from return inspection through repair, test and outbound release
- Write and maintain SOPs, inspection checklists, work instructions and test records
- Implement and sustain 5S across the department: workstations, parts storage, staging areas and labeling
- Keep department tools, test equipment and shop machinery maintained, calibrated and ready to use
- Track and report department metrics such as turnaround time, deflect and return rates, repair backlog and parts usage, and use the data to drive improvements
- Verify outgoing orderes for accuracy, completeness and compatibility, and flag stock or condition issues to Project Managers
- Manage replacement parts inventory and reorder points, and coordinate outside repairs with vendors
- Escalate excessive damage to the Warehouse Manager, and help define damage and billing standards
- Partner with management on staffing, scheduling, training plans and process changes
What you bring to the table:
- 3+ years leading or supervising a team in manufacturing, warehouse, distribution or equipment rental
- A track record of building or running a QC program: inspections, nonconformance tracking, corrective actions
- Strong documentation habits: you write SOPs and checklists people actually follow
- Hands- on experience with 5S and lean or continuous improvement methods
- Familiarity with machine and equipment maintenance: preventative maintenace schedules, basic troubleshooting, and keeping a shop running
- Comfort with hand and power tools, measuring tools and basic test equipment such as a multimeter
- Comfort with data: Excel or Google sheets, inventory or ERP system, and basic metrics reporting
- Clear communication with technicians, project managers, and vendors
- Mechanical aptitude, the ability to lift 50 lbs, and a willingness to be on your feet and working the floor
Nice to have:
- Experience in live events, AV or pro audio rental
- ISO 9001 or similar quality system exposure
- Familiarity with test equipment or electronics troubleshooting
