Job Type: Freelance Contract / On-Call
Job Summary
The Audio Monitor Engineer is responsible for patching monitors, supporting load-in, and coordinating stage requirements for performing artists. The position requires experience managing RF environments, tuning wedges and side-fills, and creating distinct monitor mixes for multiple band members simultaneously.
The Audio Monitor Engineer operates from stage right, maintaining direct visual and verbal communication with performers while using a Midas PRO2 console, Shure Axient wireless systems, Smaart, and related technologies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Mix Engineering: Create and adjust independent stage mixes for each band member using in-ear monitors (IEMs) and floor wedges during soundchecks and live performances.
- System Optimization: Deploy and tune wedges and side-fills, set up IEM systems, and establish necessary stage feeds.
- RF Coordination: Coordinate frequencies for wireless microphones and IEM systems using Shure Wireless Workbench.
- Stage Connectivity: Assist with load-in, staging, patching, and post-event breakdown of sub-snakes, splitters, stage boxes, microphones, and DI boxes.
- Artist Relations: Maintain professional communication under pressure and respond promptly to visual cues and verbal feedback from performers.
- Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve signal flow issues, faulty cabling, and equipment failures during live performances.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- At least four years of dedicated experience mixing monitors for live musical acts with a production company, concert venue, festival, or touring production. Demonstrated proficiency through a practical skills assessment may substitute for the experience requirement.
- Concert monitor mixing experience is required; theatre production experience alone does not satisfy this requirement.
- Fast, confident operation of Midas PRO Series or Yamaha DM7/CL consoles. Comparable experience with DiGiCo SD or Quantum consoles will also be considered.
- Advanced understanding of gain structure, audio signal flow, phase alignment, and microphone placement.
- Practical knowledge of professional wireless systems, including Shure UHF-R/Axient, and RF coordination software such as Wireless Workbench.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Calm, professional communication and the ability to respond constructively to feedback during fast-paced live performances.
Additional Qualifications and Expectations
- Experience with Dante, AVB, and MADI is preferred.
- Applicants should be prepared to complete a hands-on skills assessment before a contract engagement is offered.
- Experience with or established relationships among audio rental companies in Southwest Florida is preferred.
- Personal social media activity and non-emergency personal phone use are not permitted during working hours.
