The Principal Mechanical Engineering Lead will have overall responsibility for executing the mechanical design, build, and integration of a complete electron accelerator system. This person will manage the mechanical engineers and technicians and oversee the mechanical design and integration of the accelerator’s major subsystems. The role requires experience and a proven track record in accelerators and/or coupled cavity vacuum electronic devices.
Lead the mechanical design, development, build, and integration
Manage day-to-day mechanical engineering activities, including schedule, planning, prioritization, resource allocation.
Oversee the development, documentation, and integration of key subsystems, including RF systems, electron beam-related systems, high-power, vacuum, cooling, and other supporting technologies.
Ensure effective coordination and teamwork between engineering disciplines.
Identify technical risks, develop mitigation plans, and drive problem-solving across the program.
Work closely with the Chief Scientist to ensure that program execution remains aligned with the company’s scientific objectives.
Bachelor’s and 12 years’ experience or Master’s and 10 years’ experience in particle accelerator or coupled cavity vacuum electronic devices.
Proven track record of working with large systems.
Ability to run a small to medium sized technical team.
Ability to write specifications, create and review technical drawings, and communicate with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.
Deep knowledge of accelerating structures, brazing, precision machining, design CAD tools, modeling CAD tools, vacuum systems, cooling systems, and related technical disciplines.
Strong understanding of build, integration, and the practical challenges involved in developing a full accelerator platform.
