Payroll Specialist

Core Financial

At Core Financial, payroll is about more than numbers and deadlines. Every payroll represents real people who are counting on us to get it right.

We are looking for an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team. This position is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, organized, comfortable working with deadlines, and genuinely enjoys helping clients. You'll be responsible for managing payroll from start to finish while providing the responsive, personal service our clients expect from us.

Our People Come First

We believe exceptional client service starts with a strong and supported team.

We work hard and hold ourselves to high standards, but we also believe people should enjoy where they work. We foster a professional, collaborative environment where employees are encouraged to ask questions, continue learning, take ownership of their responsibilities, and contribute ideas.

We also make time to recognize accomplishments and enjoy being a team through company outings, team lunches, celebrations, and other events throughout the year.

Our office is business casual and jeans-friendly, with a culture that values professionalism without feeling overly corporate.

Your Role

As a Payroll Specialist, you will manage payroll processing for an assigned group of clients using iSolved HCM.

You'll work directly with clients to gather payroll information, resolve questions, identify potential issues, and ensure payrolls are processed accurately and on time.

Accuracy is essential, but so is communication. We want our clients to know they have someone they can rely on to answer questions, solve problems, and take ownership when something needs attention.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process client payrolls from beginning to end using iSolved HCM

  • Review and audit payroll data before finalizing each payroll

  • Manage new hires, terminations, employee changes, and other employee maintenance

  • Maintain earnings, deductions, taxes, direct deposits, and other payroll information

  • Review payroll registers, pre-process reports, and exceptions for accuracy

  • Process regular, bonus, supplemental, correction, and off-cycle payrolls

  • Assist clients with timekeeping, timecard approvals, PTO and accruals

  • Process garnishments and other employee deductions

  • Troubleshoot payroll discrepancies and determine appropriate corrections

  • Assist clients with iSolved and Employee Self-Service questions

  • Research payroll tax notices and account discrepancies

  • Maintain accurate client records and payroll documentation

  • Communicate proactively with clients regarding deadlines, missing information, or potential issues

  • Assist with quarterly and year-end payroll responsibilities

  • Stay current on payroll regulations, procedures, and system updates

  • Work collaboratively with other members of our payroll, accounting, tax, and financial services teams

What We're Looking For

Our ideal candidate understands that successful payroll processing requires more than entering numbers into a system. It requires accuracy, accountability, good judgment, and excellent communication.

Qualifications

  • Previous hands-on payroll processing experience required

  • Familiarity with iSolved is a bonus, but not a requirement

  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll withholding requirements

  • Familiarity with payroll tax filings and year-end reporting, including Forms 941, 940, W-2, and W-3

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills

  • Ability to manage multiple clients and competing deadlines

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities

  • Professional written and verbal communication skills

  • Comfortable communicating directly with clients

  • Ability to handle confidential employee and financial information appropriately

  • Willingness to learn, ask questions, and take ownership of responsibilities

A Typical Day

Your day will usually begin by reviewing what's ahead-scheduled payrolls, client messages, timecard questions, employee changes, and anything that requires immediate attention.

From there, you'll balance focused payroll processing with client communication and problem-solving. You may be reviewing payroll reports one minute and helping a client resolve a timekeeping or employee setup question the next.

Some days are predictable. Others require you to adjust quickly when a client submits a last-minute change, an employee updates a bank account, or something on a payroll report simply doesn't look right.

We value Payroll Specialists who don't just process what's submitted. We want someone who pays attention, asks questions, catches inconsistencies, and takes the initiative to resolve them.

At the end of the day, the goal is simple: accurate payroll, confident clients, and employees who are paid correctly and on time.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation based on experience

  • 401(k)

  • Paid Time Off (PTO)

  • Business-casual, jeans-friendly work environment

  • Team lunches, company outings, and employee celebrations

  • Ongoing training and professional development

  • Opportunities for professional growth and increased responsibility

  • Collaborative and supportive team environment
