Auto Body Painter - 4-day work week (4x10)
Gig Harbor, Washington
Full-Time | USD 75000.00 - 150000.00 YEAR

Auto Body Painter | Three-Day Weekends | $75K–$150K a Year | Gig Harbor, WA

Live in or near Gig Harbor and paint cars for a living? Murray’s Collision Group has an opening for an experienced Auto Body Painter at our CARSTAR Port Orchard shop, about 15 minutes from Gig Harbor. Skip the drive across the Narrows and the weekend shifts, and run your own booth at a shop where the paint department is yours to lead.

At a lot of shops, painters compete for booth time and juggle someone else’s schedule. Here, you’re the paint tech. You’ll control your own workflow from the first sanding pass to the last coat of clear, and you’ll see every job all the way through to delivery.

What makes this job different

  • Three-day weekends, every week. Work a 4x10 schedule and never work a weekend shift.
  • Pay that rewards good work. Our flat rate is $24–$28 per flagged hour, set by your skill, quality and experience. An experienced painter here typically flags 2 hours for every hour on the clock. At $26 per flagged hour, a 40-hour week comes out to about $2,080, which is more than $100,000 a year. Top painters go beyond that.
  • A family company with real benefits. Murray’s Collision Group has been family-owned and serving the Puget Sound since 1984. You’ll get medical, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, a 401(k) with a 2% employer match, and paid holidays and PTO.
  • Support to keep improving. We provide ongoing training and I-CAR support.
  • A shop you’ll want to work in. Work in a clean, modern shop equipped with quality tools.

Your day in the booth

  • Prepping vehicles for paint, including sanding and masking
  • Mixing, tinting and matching colors on a waterborne basecoat system
  • Applying primer, sealer, basecoat and clear, and blending panels for an invisible repair
  • Refinishing every vehicle to OEM and factory standards
  • Keeping the spray booth, mixing room and equipment in top condition
  • Tracking paint inventory and keeping supplies stocked
  • Wearing a respirator and required PPE and following OSHA safety guidelines
  • Moving vehicles through refinish in the shop management system
  • Joining the team for daily production meetings

You’ll fit right in if you have

  • At least 1 year of experience painting in a collision shop, as an automotive painter, refinish tech or paint tech
  • A sharp eye for color matching and blending, with topcoat skills that meet OEM standards
  • Waterborne experience, which is a plus. If you’re coming from solvent or another paint line, we’ll help you make the switch.
  • I-CAR Platinum or ASE Refinish certification (preferred, not required)
  • The organization and focus to manage your own workflow independently
  • A valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record
