Target salary: $60,000–$65,000 annually
Target start date: November 16, 2026, subject to the selected candidate’s notice period.
About the Role
LawTrio LLC is hiring an experienced Staff Accountant to manage day-to-day accounting for LawTrio. Reporting to the Director of Accounting & Finance, you will take ownership of recurring accounting work, complete reconciliations and support the monthly close as the organization grows.
We are looking for someone who can work independently after systems and process training, maintain accurate records and resolve discrepancies with sound judgment.
Benefits
- Health, dental and vision insurance with 100% of employee premiums and 50% of eligible dependent premiums paid by the employer. Enrollment eligibility begins after 60 days.
- 401(k) with a dollar-for-dollar company match up to 4% of eligible pay after one year of employment.
- Paid time off and paid holidays.
- Company-paid life and basic disability insurance.
- Parental leave with paid benefits based on eligibility and length of service.
- Tuition assistance and student loan repayment programs, subject to program requirements.
Benefits are subject to plan terms, eligibility requirements, and the Employee Handbook.
Responsibilities
- Process accounts payable, maintain vendor records, code invoices to the correct account and entity, and prepare payments for approval.
- Complete monthly bank and credit card reconciliations with supporting documentation by established deadlines.
- Maintain the general ledger, prepare journal entries and maintain supporting schedules.
- Prepare and process payroll, validate inputs and obtain required approvals before release.
- Administer trust deposits, check preparation and transaction recording under established controls. Support the Director’s monthly and quarterly trust reconciliations.
- Reconcile accounts receivable and coordinate with the billing and collections team on outstanding balances, unapplied items and discrepancies.
- Prepare assigned month-end closing schedules and reconciliations for review.
- Investigate, document and promptly correct discrepancies; immediately escalate material errors and trust accounting issues.
- Maintain organized accounting records, protect confidential information and follow established internal controls and approval procedures.
Required Qualifications
- At least four years of relevant accounting experience, including independent bank reconciliation and general ledger responsibilities.
- Hands-on experience with accounts payable, journal entries, payroll preparation or processing, and month-end schedules.
- Strong Excel skills and accounting software proficiency, including reconciliation workbooks, formulas and data review.
- Demonstrated accuracy, independent problem solving, deadline management, clear communication and reliable follow-through.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
- Experience with trust accounting or law firm accounting.
- Experience using Salesforce or Accounting Seed.
Technical ability, accuracy and relevant experience carry more weight than a degree alone.
What Success Looks Like
You will be expected to maintain a routine transaction error rate below 1%, complete all assigned reconciliations and month-end tasks on time, and investigate, document and correct discrepancies promptly. Trust accounting issues must be resolved within required deadlines, and no material errors may knowingly remain uncorrected.
- First 30 days: Complete systems and process training, demonstrate understanding of accounting controls and trust procedures, and begin AP and routine transaction processing under supervision.
- By 60 days: Independently complete assigned bank and credit card reconciliations; assume primary responsibility for AP, routine journal entries and payroll tasks; and complete assigned close schedules on time, with required reviews and approvals.
- By 90 days: Independently manage the day-to-day responsibilities of the role, meet accuracy and deadline standards, and identify and resolve discrepancies without constant supervision.
The Director of Accounting & Finance will provide training, supervision and regular performance feedback throughout onboarding.
