Manchester University invites applications for the position of Department Chair of Pharmacy Practice at our Fort Wayne campus. This is an opportunity for an accomplished pharmacy educator and collaborative leader to make a visible difference within a close-knit, mission-driven university community.

We are looking for a leader who brings structure and clarity to complex work, follows through on commitments, and is comfortable holding others accountable with fairness and transparency. The successful candidate will be an organized and engaged faculty advocate who listens well, communicates openly, and builds collaboration around shared goals.

The Opportunity

The Department Chair leads the Pharmacy Practice Department in advancing the mission, vision, and goals of the department and College. The position combines academic leadership with teaching, scholarship, and service. Approximately 60 to 70 percent of the role is devoted to administration, with the remaining responsibilities distributed among teaching and scholarship.

As Department Chair, you will:

  • Build a healthy, accountable department culture that supports excellence in teaching, professional accomplishment and meaningful personal lives.
  • Establish clear expectations, follow through on commitments, and help faculty and staff take ownership of shared priorities.
  • Collaborate with program leadership to maintain full accreditation status with ACPE.
  • Advocate for faculty while balancing individual needs with departmental and institutional goals.
  • Lead departmental planning, priority setting, resource stewardship, and continuous improvement.
  • Recruit, retain, mentor, coach, and develop faculty and staff.
  • Strengthen collaboration across disciplines and build partnerships that support teaching, practice, scholarship, and service.
  • Contribute to teaching, scholarship, student mentoring, and University service.
  • Work collaboratively with other chairs and deans.

What You Will Bring

Qualified candidates will have:

  • An earned terminal degree in a pharmacy (BPharm or PharmD), preferably from an ACPE-accredited college or school of pharmacy.
  • Credentials supporting appointment at the rank of associate or full professor.
  • An understanding of contemporary pharmacy education and practice.
  • Strong organizational, communication, coaching, and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to set priorities, manage deadlines, make thoughtful decisions, and hold others accountable.
  • A commitment to faculty collaboration, advocacy, professional development, and student success.
  • A demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Prior leadership experience in an academic or practice environment, experience with personnel and budget management, and experience developing clinical practice sites are preferred.
