Client: a Fortune 500 global logistics company
Location: Minnesota, Illinois, or Kansas City (candidates must be based in one of these areas)
About the Role
Our client, a leading global logistics company, is hiring a Software Engineer III to join the team that builds its near-real-time pricing platform for shipping customers. You’ll work alongside engineers, data scientists, and analysts to design scalable systems for cost estimation, pricing strategy, and data-driven insights, including experimentation tools that let the team test ideas quickly. The work centers on distributed systems, cloud-native development, and data-intensive applications, with a growing focus on AI-assisted and agentic solutions.
What You’ll Do
- Design and build scalable, modular near-real-time decisioning systems using microservices, REST APIs, event-driven/streaming architectures, and hybrid relational/NoSQL storage.
- Develop backend services and data pipelines in Python and front-end experiences in React, deployed on Azure with Kubernetes.
- Build data workflows with Airflow, working across MongoDB and Snowflake.
- Own services end-to-end, drive system design decisions, and manage delivery timelines and risk on complex initiatives.
- Partner with data scientists to productionize models and support experimentation frameworks.
- Contribute to agentic and intelligent automation solutions, using AI-assisted tools like GitHub Copilot.
- Lead design discussions and code reviews, mentor other engineers, and champion strong testing and code quality practices.
Requirements
What You Bring
- 5+ years designing and delivering production-grade software.
- 5+ years of Python backend development and 5+ years with React or another modern front-end framework.
- Experience building cloud-native applications (Azure preferred) with Kubernetes.
- Hands-on experience with MongoDB (or similar), Snowflake (or equivalent), and Airflow or similar orchestration tools.
- Strong background in APIs, distributed systems, CI/CD, and modern DevOps practices.
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools and agentic/LLM frameworks such as LangChain or LangSmith.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Nice to Have
- Experience partnering with data science teams to put models into production.
- Background in statistical modeling, experimentation, or data-driven decision systems.
- Experience in pricing, logistics, or other high-scale transactional systems.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools such as DataDog, Prometheus, or Grafana.
- Proven ability to mentor engineers and influence technical and product decisions.
