Loureiro Engineering Associates is seeking a Director of Enterprise Risk to join our team. The Director of Enterprise Risk is responsible for developing and strengthening the systems, standards, controls, and management disciplines through which Loureiro identifies, evaluates, manages, and monitors enterprise risk.
Initially focused on subcontractor and third-party risk, contract review, purchase order controls, insurance compliance, and procurement governance, the role is intended to develop over time into a broader enterprise risk function encompassing contractual risk, claims, insurance and bonding, major project risk, acquisition and joint-venture risk, and other material enterprise risks.
What You’ll Do
Enterprise Risk Management
- Develop and continually improve enterprise-wide standards, controls, approval thresholds, delegated authorities, and exception processes for identifying, evaluating, managing, and monitoring material business risks.
- Partner with executive and operating leaders to ensure material risks are understood, evaluated at the appropriate level, and escalated when outside established standards or authority.
- Monitor risk and compliance trends, recurring exceptions, and emerging exposures and provide leadership with appropriate visibility into the Company's risk profile.
Subcontractor and Third-Party Risk
- Establish and maintain enterprise standards for subcontractor and third-party qualification, approval, monitoring, and compliance, including ownership and oversight of the subcontractor management system.
- Establish qualification requirements addressing safety, insurance, financial capacity, licensing, and other appropriate risk considerations, including processes for reviewing and approving exceptions.
- Partner with operating teams to ensure subcontractor and vendor risks are appropriately evaluated before commitments are made, while operating leaders retain responsibility for selection, buyout, and performance.
Contractual Risk and Commercial Controls
- Establish and maintain standards and processes for reviewing client, subcontractor, vendor, purchase order, and other commercial commitments.
- Review contractual and commercial risks within delegated authority and ensure material or unusual risks are appropriately identified, documented, and escalated.
- Coordinate with operating leaders, administrative leaders, insurance advisors, outside legal counsel, and other resources as appropriate to support informed commercial decisions.
Procurement and Insurance Governance
- Establish and monitor controls governing procurement and buyout, including competitive bidding, authorization thresholds, documentation requirements, sole-source procurement, and other exceptions.
- Establish and maintain subcontractor and vendor insurance requirements and oversee certificate of insurance compliance, deficiencies, and exceptions.
- Partner with operating leadership and administrative leadership to continually improve procurement and risk-transfer controls, while operating leaders retain responsibility for purchasing, subcontractor selection, and project execution.
Development of the Enterprise Risk Function
- Develop the systems, processes, reporting, and organizational capabilities necessary to support the evolution of a comprehensive enterprise risk-management function.
- Expand the function over time, as appropriate, to encompass claims, insurance and bonding, major project risk, procurement risk, acquisition and joint-venture risk, and other material enterprise risks.
- Promote an enterprise risk-management culture that creates transparency, supports informed risk-taking, strengthens accountability, and enables effective execution.
Who You Are
- A business-minded professional with strong judgment and an understanding of risk within a project-based business.
- A practical problem-solver who can develop systems and controls that effectively manage risk without unnecessarily impeding operations.
- An influential collaborator who can work with and appropriately challenge leaders at all levels of the organization.
- A strong communicator and negotiator with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- A professional of high integrity, sound judgment, and credibility who can build trust across the organization.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in business, construction management, engineering, finance, risk management, law, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in commercial management, contracts, risk management, procurement, insurance, subcontractor management, or related disciplines.
- Experience within engineering, construction, environmental services, industrial services, or another project-based business preferred.
- Demonstrated experience managing contractual, commercial, subcontractor, procurement, or insurance-related risk.
