Description

Help us close the books on a growth story.

L2 Brands makes the decorated apparel and headwear you see at the best college bookstores, golf clubs, resorts and retailers across the country. Our brands include League, Legacy, Ouray, Locale, and Wild Tribute. We’re a private equity-backed company with big growth plans, and we’re looking for an Assistant Controller to help build a finance function to match.

This is a hands-on leadership role for an accounting professional who likes owning the close, improving processes and having a seat close to the decisions. You’ll report directly to our EVP of Finance and work with lenders, our private equity partners and leaders across the business.

What you’ll do

  • Own the close: Lead the monthly, quarterly and year-end close, including the calendar, task assignments, journal entries, accruals, intercompany entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Deliver the numbers that drive decisions: Prepare financial statements, management reporting packages, performance reports, cost accounting and variance analyses, with recommendations leadership can act on.
  • Partner on high-visibility reporting: Support lender and private equity reporting, bank compliance and debt covenant calculations.
  • Lead the audit and tax work: Prepare audit schedules, coordinate with external auditors, and manage local, state and federal filings, including sales and use tax, with outside advisors.
  • Strengthen the foundation: Develop and document accounting policies, procedures and internal controls, research technical accounting questions, and keep us GAAP-compliant.
  • Make it better: Recommend and implement process and system improvements that make the close faster and more accurate.
  • Lead and develop people: Coach the financial operations and credit and collections teams, oversee past-due balances, and partner with sales leadership on resolutions.
  • Plan ahead: Help build the annual budget and forecasts for P&L, capital expenditures and working capital.

Requirements

  •  7+ years of accounting experience, including at least 5 years supervising a team
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, accrual accounting, technical accounting and internal controls
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail, with a track record of meeting close deadlines
  • Clear written and verbal communication with everyone from staff accountants to executives
  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred. A CPA or experience in manufacturing or private equity-backed companies is a plus.
