Position snapshot

This is a part-time role, about 10 hours a week, focused on growing catering and overall sales for both stores. Part of the time is spent learning to work in the shop, so you know the menu and how catering orders come together.

About us

Jersey Mike's Subs has been an authentic New Jersey sub shop since 1956, and our locally owned shops in Rotterdam and Troy are growing fast. We slice our meat and cheese fresh to order, bake our bread fresh every day, and care about making the perfect sub. We love our subs, we love our customers, and we strive to be A Sub Above in everything we do.

Our leadership team is the heartbeat of each location. We're looking for an enthusiastic, outgoing, detail-oriented person to learn our shop and grow our catering business, from team meals for college athletic programs to office lunches and community fundraisers.

What you'll do

You'll learn how the shop runs, then turn our contact lists into catering orders and keep finding new customers.

Learn the shop

  • Work shifts alongside our crew to learn the menu, how subs are made, and our Jersey Mike's standards.
  • Learn how catering orders are taken, prepped and handed off, so you can quote and plan orders confidently.
  • Get to know the store teams in Rotterdam and Troy, and help make sure large catering orders are ready on time.
Manage our contacts and outreach

  • Own our outreach spreadsheets: visiting college teams at Union, RPI, UAlbany, Siena, Hudson Valley and Russell Sage, plus 100+ local businesses, schools and government offices.
  • Send personalized emails, follow up by phone, and log every touch (date, method, response).
  • Keep game schedules and staff contacts current each season, and add new teams and contacts as schedules are posted.
Find new leads

  • Research offices, schools, medical practices, warehouses, nonprofits and youth sports leagues near both stores.
  • Find the right decision-maker at each: office managers, athletic directors, HR, event coordinators.
  • Visit businesses in person with menus and samples, and track who you met.
Grow catering and overall sales

  • Turn inquiries into orders: quote platters and boxed lunches, confirm headcount, timing and pickup or delivery.
  • Work with store managers so large orders are prepped on time.
  • Follow up after every order to get feedback and the next booking.
  • Set up Community Night fundraisers (15% of sales from 5–8 PM to a local cause) with schools, teams and nonprofits.
  • Draft social media posts for catering and Community Nights.
Report results

  • Send a short weekly update: contacts reached, meetings, orders booked and catering sales.

  • Required

    • Experience in sales, customer service, hospitality, events or business development
    • Clear, friendly writing and phone skills
    • Comfortable with Excel or Google Sheets and email
    • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license for local visits
    • Self-motivated: sets a weekly plan and follows through without being chased
    • Willing to learn to work in the shop
  • Nice to have

    • Catering, restaurant or food-service experience
    • Connections with local colleges, athletics, schools or businesses in the Capital Region
    • Experience with a CRM or mail merge
    • Social media or Canva skills
    • A current college student or recent grad in business, marketing or sport management

Flexible work from home options available.
