This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who leads by example, remains composed during high-volume periods, and knows how to hold a service team accountable. The Lead Server will actively serve guests while coordinating the floor, coaching servers, resolving service issues, and ensuring every guest receives prompt, accurate, friendly, and professional service.

The ideal candidate is not simply a strong individual server—they must be capable of developing an entire team and creating a culture of urgency, teamwork, accountability, and hospitality.

Responsibilities:
  • Cover the shifts of absent employees
  • Set the standard for professional, attentive, and efficient guest service
  • Lead pre-shift meetings to communicate specials, events, reservations, service priorities, and daily expectations.
  • Ensure guests are greeted promptly and receive timely beverages, food, checkbacks, and payment processing.
  • Monitor the dining room continuously and address service gaps before they become guest complaints.
  • Maintain a visible and active presence on the floor during every shift.
  • Lead by example through a positive attitude, strong work ethic, urgency, and teamwork.

Team Direction and Accountability:
  • Coordinate server sections, rotations, side work, opening duties, and closing duties.
  • Assign responsibilities fairly based on business volume and staffing needs.
  • Ensure servers remain attentive to their sections and do not neglect guests or assigned duties.
  • Hold team members accountable for attendance, punctuality, appearance, preparedness, and performance.
  • Correct service issues respectfully and immediately when standards are not being followed.
  • Document recurring performance concerns and communicate them to management.
  • Support management in maintaining a professional, respectful, and team-focused workplace.

Guest Experience:
  • Welcome guests and create a friendly, energetic sports-pub atmosphere.
  • Handle guest concerns calmly, professionally, and with an appropriate sense of urgency.
  • Notify management promptly of serious complaints, incidents, or requests requiring authorization.
  • Check on tables throughout the dining room to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Help recover dissatisfied guests whenever possible and protect the reputation of the business.
  • Encourage guest loyalty through genuine hospitality and consistent service.

Qualifications:
  • At least two years of high-volume serving experience preferred.
  • Previous Lead Server, Shift Lead, Trainer, or restaurant leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to direct, coach, motivate, and hold team members accountable.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong guest-service instincts and professional conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during busy or stressful shifts.
  • Strong knowledge of restaurant service standards and steps of service.
  • Experience with restaurant POS systems and cash-handling procedures.
  • Dependable attendance and reliable transportation.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and major sporting or Uptown event days.
  • Must meet all North Carolina requirements for serving alcoholic beverages.
